Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck en PACCAR vormen joint venture om productie batterijcellen in de Verenigde Staten te bevorderen

Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck en PACCAR zullen elk 30% bezitten ván en gezamenlijk zeggenschap uitoefenen óver de joint venture, die zich in eerste instantie zal richten op de lithium-ijzer-fosfaat batterijtechnologie (LFP) voor commerciële batterij-elektrische trucks. LFP-batterijcellen die door de joint venture worden geproduceerd, zullen verschillende voordelen bieden ten opzichte van andere batterijtechnologieën. Zo zijn ze goedkoper, hebben ze een langere levensduur en bieden ze maximale veiligheid. Bovendien zijn ze vrij van nikkel en kobalt.

Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck en PACCAR verwachten dat de vraag naar batterijtechnologie dit decennium groeit. Amerikaanse klanten zullen dan ook profiteren van de nieuwe, ultramoderne fabriek voor batterijcellen. EVE Energy zal fungeren als technologiepartner in de joint venture. Het krijgt 10% eigendom en brengt zowel haar toonaangevende ontwerp van batterijcellen als productiekennis in. EVE Energy is een wereldleider in de productie van LFP-batterijcellen voor de auto-industrie en is beursgenoteerd op de beurs van Shenzhen. 

Deze strategische joint venture stelt de aandeelhouders in staat de noodzakelijke schaalgrootte te creëren om zo toegang te krijgen tot betaalbare en uiteenlopende batterijceltechnologieën. Hiervan zullen uiteindelijke Noord-Amerikaanse klanten van bedrijfsvoertuigen profiteren. “Wij hebben de verantwoordelijkheid om de uitstoot van CO2 terug te dringen op een manier die het beste is voor onze stakeholders en de planeet. Dit vereist nauwe samenwerking met belangrijke partners. De aankondiging van vandaag is hiervan een weerspiegeling. We bevorderen niet alleen een belangrijke technologische oplossing voor onze klanten, maar versnellen ook de energietransitie in de Verenigde Staten”, aldus Jennifer Rumsey, voorzitter en Chief Executive Officer van Cummins.
